COMICKING STATUS
Progress is being made on Bonnie Lass volume 2! Issue three is in the works, while issues one and two just need a few polishes.

A couple of years ago I rounded out my work on the pages for Massively Effective, written by Marco Lopez and Bryan Ginn of Atomic Rex Entertainment. Be on the lookout for that one hitting you very soon! More to come!

Last year I was honored to be part of the Skullkickers third Tavern Tales issue as a guest illustrator. I drew a story written by the wonderful Charles Soule (27, Strange Attractors, and most recently Swamp Thing) and since then we've been working up a pitch for a brand new, original adventure! That'll be another one to stay tuned for, once we have some more solid info to share!

Hop over to Twitter and suggest a character for me to draw!
For the next several hours I'm going to be drawing away! Follow me MichaelMayne and tweet me your request!
I'm building up a new catalog of original sketches to sell at conventions, so while I won't be giving any away today, I will happily email you a hi-res scan if I wind up sketching a character that you suggest! Animation, video game, comic book characters preferred, but I may take a stab at OCs or real live action characters if I'm feeling frisky!
Get your requests in now while there's plenty of time!

Over and done! But you can still swing by Twitter and follow me MichaelMayne to keep up on things like this down the road!

As noted yesterday, I'm leaving for Derby City Comic Con this weekend. One-day show, Saturday, but I'm heading out sometime today just to avoid the early morning hassle tomorrow. Stop by, get comics, get sketches, geek out with me!

COMICKING STATUS
You may be wondering how progress is going on Bonnie Lass volume 2. Well, it's still in stasis at the moment while I work on other projects. After the con this weekend, I'm hoping to jump back in, finish that darn second issue, and get cranking on the rest of the arc, hopefully finishing it up around the end of summer, early fall.

One of the other projects I'm working on is :iconzubby:'s Skullkickers Tavern Tales. Jim's been gracious enough to let me tackle artwork on one of the short stories (written by Charles Soule) therein, and I should finish that up next week as well! I'm really excited to get that one out there. For now, here's the solicit for the issue: www.skullkickers.com/2012/06/1…

This Saturday I'll be in Louisville, KY for Derby City Comic Con.

I'll be at table 354 near the back, right around the corner from LARRY HAMA! I'm peeing down my leg with excitement.

I'll be primed for the usual: selling Bonnie Lass comics, various prints, and sketch commissions! Stop on by and catch up with me!

Well, Tricon 2012 has come and gone. And I sure had a blast!

The folks of Broken Icon Comics put on an excellent show! Not even qualifying it based on its first-year status—it was a great convention all around, had it been the fifth or fifteenth year for it! Glad to have such a well-organized, much needed, full-blown comic convention in my neck of the woods!

I'll definitely be back next year!

Got to chat it up with Beau Smith, Lora Innes (comic-chic), Billy Tucci, BJay Johnson, and Rusty Shackles!
Even a welcome but brief appearance by Doc Curmudgeon!

Thanks to all those who stopped by my table and talked to me, and extra thanks to those who purchased anything, especially the comics. I think I moved more copies of Bonnie Lass there than at any other show I've been to in the last year!

Put this one on your radar, folks! Tri-State Comic Convention in Huntington, WV… Looking forward to the 2013 show!
I'll be at the first (hopefully annual) Tri-State Comic Con this Saturday, June 9th, in Huntington, WV.

I'm really excited to be part of the inaugural event, especially with so many other great guests and exhibitors!

I'll be there all day, selling comics and prints, and taking on sketch commissions!
Hope to see you there!

—Michael
So, long story short, my state tax department wants to squeeze a considerable chunk of change out of my bank account. I'm going to appeal it, but in the event that it's not just some records faux pas, I'm really gonna need to start bringing in some more income to get 'em to calm down.

So I'm open for commissions!! See here for basic prices on things like pinups/character illustrations: fav.me/d3jytrf

But I'm also game for sequentials (preferably anthology shorts or the like, for now) or darn near anything else! Have a look at my comics gallery if you're looking to have a short story or oneshot of yours illustrated!
Picture book illustrations? You got it!
Concept art? Game assets? Sure thing!

In all instances, I ultimately price based on the specific needs of the project. So just let me know what you need and I'll give you a price quote to work with!

Email me at k.michael.mayne@gmail.com to discuss prices.
Paypal only, unless your committing to a larger project in which checks are conditionally acceptable.

And don't forget! I've got a pretty quick turnaround time once you give me all I need to get started!

Production on Bonnie Lass: The Committed is moving along!

Are you an artist? Want to be part of the action?

Bonnie's looking for some pinup artwork to further embellish her adventures.

We're always eager to see new fanart, but now we're looking to showcase some of that inspired talent in the upcoming volume!

Any artwork we receive will be shared on the Facebook page and in a special gallery on the blog site, but some of the favorites may be exalted to the printed pages of Bonnie Lass: The Committed!

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

:bulletblue: Pin-ups of characters from the Bonnie Lass universe. If you've seen 'em in the comics or on the production blog, they're fair game! Any medium too—pencils, pens, paints, pixels, paper-mâché…! Even collaborations are welcome! For inspiration beyond the comics, see here and here.
:bulletblue: No original characters or other characters you don't own the rights to. Let's just stay out of the legal gray area. (If you do illustrate a crossover with YOUR OWN characters, it can definitely be put in the online galleries, but we may have to pass on printing them, just to be safe.)
:bulletblue: Artwork should be sized to fit on a standard comic page (or able to be cropped) to be considered for print. Also, keep in mind the nature of the comic. PG-13 material at most, reasonably safe for middle schoolers. Things can be cheeky and violent without being gratuitous.

WHAT YOU'LL GET:

:bulletblue: The satisfaction of a job well-done and your work being showcased for any number of comic fans to see!
:bulletblue: Full credit and a link back to your own portfolio/gallery/webcomic/Twitter/etc.
:bulletblue: Printing arrangements permitting, a free, signed copy of the issue featuring your artwork, with a special note of thanks from Michael Mayne.

No hard deadline as of now, as publication has yet to be made official, but to be considered for inclusion in the first issue, you'll want to get something in as soon as possible!

Also note that the only compensation on the table is stated above. No further compensation, financial or otherwise, can be expected. By submitting artwork under these pretenses you are agreeing to permit Michael Mayne to use said art to reasonably cross-promote you, the artist, as well as the Bonnie Lass property. You will not lose any rights to the art yourself, so don't worry about that!

HOW TO SUBMIT:

:bulletblue: Send a low-res (72-96 dpi) JPEG or PNG to k.michael.mayne@gmail.com with the subject 'BONNIE FAN ART'
:bulletblue: Include your name, profession (creator, inker, colorist, hobbyist, etc.) and a link you'd like me to refer back to when sharing your artwork.
:bulletblue: Also, if you post it online (please feel free to do so!), go ahead and send me the direct link to it so I can link to that as well.
:bulletblue: If your piece would make a nice addition to the printed issues, you will receive a follow-up email requesting a hi-res file. Please don't send a 60MB file as your initial submission!

Hope to see some really fun stuff! Thanks ahead to those of you who take the time to work something up, or even pass the word along!

—Michael

I was interviewed this weekend by Andrew Leslie over at the Freakin' Awesome Network. That interview went live today, and you can find it here: www.freakinawesomenetwork.com/…

I'm questioned about writing a strong, female character, my participation in Comic Creators for Freedom's 2012 donation drive, and some of my karaoke standards, among other minutia!

There's also a giveaway. All you have to do is share a link to the interview on Facebook or Twitter (also include the hashtag #BonnieFAN for the latter) and you're in the running to win all four copies of Bonnie Lass: The Legend, signed by both Tyler and myself.
As an added bonus, Andrew will donate another $50 to CCF on Friday if you all can tally up at least 100 shares of that interview across Facebook and Twitter by then! So get crackin'!
Free comics? Helping out a great cause? You've got nothing to lose!
Working on Volume 2, Issue 1 now!

I just finished the pencils for it in a little under a week, and started on the inks a few hours ago. Already have about four pages inked!
If things keep up at this rate, we'll have a completed issue by the end of the month! =D

You can check out BonnieLassComic.com for more frequent updates about the production of volume 2! Hop on over and let me know what you think! I'd like to offer more insightful blog posts, so if you've got any questions or suggested topics feel free to drop me a line and I'll see what kind of substantial entries I can cook up!

In the meantime, I just got the official word that I'll at least have one class to teach this semester, along with a few other ongoing freelance projects, so I should be able to stay financially afloat while jamming out this Bonnie Lass work!

That said, I'm pretty much always open for commissions.
The steady work keeps me alive and basically functional. Commissions help me afford conventions, new resources, and the occasional, requisite, relaxing entertainment. =)
If you've already contacted me recently about commissions, you're still getting them at the New Year's discount rate! But any new commissions will be at the standard—but still affordable!—rate. See the Commissions Rubric for details: maniac086.deviantart.com/art/C…
MichaelMayne on Twitter | Bonnie Lass blog | Bonnie Lass on Facebook

Well, I thought I was gonna be booked solid through the end of the year, but I found out I should only have to work through part of Wednesday, so I thought I'd do a commission special!

From now through the 31st, if you arrange a commission from me, I'll offer you a special discount!
See here for the usual breakdown of my commission prices: maniac086.deviantart.com/art/C…

:star:Now for the :bulletgreen:SPECIAL:bulletgreen::star:
In regards to sketches, polished inks, and full CG, the discounted prices for one character are…
:bulletgreen: $5, $15, and $30 respectively for waist-up illustrations—that's $5 off the regular prices!
:bulletgreen: $15, $30, and $45 respectively for full-body illustrations—that's 25% off the regular prices!

A few notes:
•Digital only. You'll get hi-res files to print out for yourself in the end.
•Busts/chibis are same low price as usual!
•Still need to do minimum orders of $10, so you would need to get at least two $5 commissions for a minimum order.
•Prices for additional characters are the same as usual. Please see the commission rubric.
•Please be brief but concise in your character descriptions/references. I should be able to glean enough from just a few stats, short sentences, and/or three or so reference images.
•Paypal only. Full payment up front. Payments need to be in (thus securing your spot) by December 31st, 2011, to be qualify for the sale.

Again, reference the full rubric (maniac086.deviantart.com/art/C… for all standard details. It should have you covered.
Send me an email (subject: Commission Blowout) at k.michael.mayne @ gmail . com (take out the spaces) if you wanna get rolling or if you've got any questions!

Hope you're finishing off your holiday season and 2011 with a bang!

Got a few things going on these days…

:bulletred: Most consistently, I'm teaching a couple of college art classes each week. Two classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. It's nice, and it gets me thinking about some of the fundamentals that I tend to gloss over myself.

:bulletred: I'm also working on an ongoing webcomic called "Possessed," which you can check out HERE.
I've taken over as the regular artist, after the previous artist turned out a whopping 80+ strips. I'm hoping to be on this one for a while, as it's already a lot of fun and the author is a great guy to work with! Possessed updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and my first five strips are already live! So go check out Possessed at MyOwnGoodComic.com today!

:bulletred: Other than that, I'm just taking freelance commissions as they come! I'm pretty much always looking to schedule commissions down the road, be it within the next 24 hours or the next two weeks. So are you looking to have any artwork done? Read on!!

COMMISSIONS
Well, it's pretty simple—I'm available for commissions right now! Trying out a new work schedule, and it looks like it'll allow me more time to work on smaller projects like personal commissions!

Take a look at the Commission Rubric for a robust but flexible pricing guide:
:bulletgreen:MICHAEL MAYNE'S COMMISSIONS GUIDE:bulletgreen:
(And be sure to read up on the details in the description under the image. It ought to answer most if not all of your questions about the process.)

A few quick notes:
•By default, all commissions are digitally produced and digitally delivered (300dpi, TIFF/PNG). If you would like more tangible resources/final product, please be aware that additional fees will be incurred.
•Please provide links to clear, legible reference images and keep your descriptions concise. I start once you pay (partial or whole).
•Most character pinups I can finish in one sitting, so having everything I need to know up front is ideal for keeping me in the particular groove of the piece. If I have to go back and add something because you forgot to mention it before, you may be billed for edits; else I will simply deliver it as-is.
•PAYPAL only. On larger orders I will consider payments by check or money orders, but that's it.

BonnieLassComic.com | Bonnie Lass on Facebook | Red 5 Comics

Well, some of you have known/presumed this for a while, but it's official—Bonnie Lass: The Legend is hitting comic shop shelves in print this September! Pre-order code is JUL111217. Please be sure to get your orders in ASAP so that your shop will carry it!
Thanks in advance, and thanks to everyone who's been supporting the series so far!

Here's the full press release:

Red 5 Comics announces the start of pre-orders for its latest comic title coming to print — the high-energy joy-filled "Bonnie Lass: The Legend" from creators Michael Mayne and Tyler Fluharty.

Earlier this year, "Bonnie Lass" was the premiere title of the "Red 5 Comics Digital First" line of comics that would debut on the web and mobile devices. This would serve as a testing ground for off-beat, off-genre or new-talent titles looking to build a following, buzz and track-record up-front to set-up a big splash in print.

"Bonnie Lass" spins the yarn of a brash and daring young pirate heroine in a world that mashes the familiar motifs of legendary sea-faring pirates with the tone of an American western and a dash of modern-day technology like automobiles and GPS. Filled with daddy-issues toward her infamous pirate father, Bonnie is after the one treasure he did not claim.

In its digital release, "Bonnie Lass" earned praise from reviewers…
    • "A perfect book to lure superhero fans into non-superhero comics." – Renderwrx Productions
    • "A light-hearted adventure story that owes as much to Indiana Jones as Pirates of the Caribbean." – Robot 6
    • "Bonnie Lass has provided something that has surely been missing from comic books of the past few years — crazy pirate action." – Impulse Gamer
    • "It reminded me of some of those great Marvel comics from the late '60s/early '70s that seemed jammed with action and story and page-turning excitement." – Kleefeld on Comics

More importantly, "Bonnie Lass" also earned the paid following of digital comic readers on the comiXology and iVerse reader platforms, garnering sales comparable to hard-copy favorites like "Atomic Robo", "Neozoic" and "Abyss" — but without the benefit of a print release promotion.

As Red 5 is an independent publisher, your comic shop may not carry "Bonnie Lass" this fall unless you pre-order your copy during the month of July using order code JUL111217. "Bonnie Lass #1" of the four-issue series is a spotlight item in July's Diamond Preview catalog and set for release on September 21, 2011 for just $2.99.
