After the con this weekend, I'm hoping to jump back in, finish that darn second issue, and get cranking on the rest of the arc, hopefully finishing it up around the end of summer, early fall.

One of the other projects I'm working on is 's Skullkickers Tavern Tales. Jim's been gracious enough to let me tackle artwork on one of the short stories (written by Charles Soule) therein, and I should finish that up next week as well! Well, Tricon 2012 has come and gone. And I sure had a blast!

The folks of Broken Icon Comics put on an excellent show! Not even qualifying it based on its first-year status—it was a great convention all around, had it been the fifth or fifteenth year for it! Glad to have such a well-organized, much needed, full-blown comic convention in my neck of the woods!

I'll definitely be back next year!

Got to chat it up with Beau Smith, Lora Innes (~comic-chic), Billy Tucci, BJay Johnson, and Rusty Shackles!
Even a welcome but brief appearance by Doc Curmudgeon!

So, long story short, my state tax department wants to squeeze a considerable chunk of change out of my bank account. I'm going to appeal it, but in the event that it's not just some records faux pas, I'm really gonna need to start bringing in some more income to get 'em to calm down.

Bonnie's looking for some pinup artwork to further embellish her adventures.

We're always eager to see new fanart, but now we're looking to showcase some of that inspired talent in the upcoming volume!


Any artwork we receive will be shared on the Facebook page and in a special gallery on the blog site, but some of the favorites may be exalted to the printed pages of Bonnie Lass: The Committed!

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Pin-ups of characters from the Bonnie Lass universe. If you've seen 'em in the comics or on the production blog, they're fair game! Any medium too—pencils, pens, paints, pixels, paper-mâché…! Even collaborations are welcome! For inspiration beyond the comics, see here and here.
No original characters or other characters you don't own the rights to. Let's just stay out of the legal gray area. (If you do illustrate a crossover with YOUR OWN characters, it can definitely be put in the online galleries, but we may have to pass on printing them, just to be safe.)
Artwork should be sized to fit on a standard comic page (or able to be cropped) to be considered for print. Also, keep in mind the nature of the comic. PG-13 material at most, reasonably safe for middle schoolers. Things can be cheeky and violent without being gratuitous.


WHAT YOU'LL GET:

The satisfaction of a job well-done and your work being showcased for any number of comic fans to see!
Full credit and a link back to your own portfolio/gallery/webcomic/Twitter/etc.
Printing arrangements permitting, a free, signed copy of the issue featuring your artwork, with a special note of thanks from Michael Mayne.



No hard deadline as of now, as publication has yet to be made official, but to be considered for inclusion in the first issue, you'll want to get something in as soon as possible!

Also note that the only compensation on the table is stated above. No further compensation, financial or otherwise, can be expected. By submitting artwork under these pretenses you are agreeing to permit Michael Mayne to use said art to reasonably cross-promote you, the artist, as well as the Bonnie Lass property. You will not lose any rights to the art yourself, so don't worry about that!

Send a low-res (72-96 dpi) JPEG or PNG to k.michael.mayne@gmail.com with the subject 'BONNIE FAN ART'
Include your name, profession (creator, inker, colorist, hobbyist, etc.) and a link you'd like me to refer back to when sharing your artwork.
Also, if you post it online (please feel free to do so!), go ahead and send me the direct link to it so I can link to that as well.
If your piece would make a nice addition to the printed issues, you will receive a follow-up email requesting a hi-res file. Please don't send a 60MB file as your initial submission!

Working on Volume 2, Issue 1 now!

I just finished the pencils for it in a little under a week, and started on the inks a few hours ago. Already have about four pages inked!
If things keep up at this rate, we'll have a completed issue by the end of the month!

Well, I thought I was gonna be booked solid through the end of the year, but I found out I should only have to work through part of Wednesday, so I thought I'd do a commission special!

In regards to sketches, polished inks, and full CG, the discounted prices for one character are…
$5, $15, and $30 respectively for waist-up illustrations—that's $5 off the regular prices!
$15, $30, and $45 respectively for full-body illustrations—that's 25% off the regular prices!

A few notes:
•Digital only. You'll get hi-res files to print out for yourself in the end.
•Busts/chibis are same low price as usual!
•Still need to do minimum orders of $10, so you would need to get at least two $5 commissions for a minimum order.
•Prices for additional characters are the same as usual. Please see the commission rubric.
•Please be brief but concise in your character descriptions/references. I should be able to glean enough from just a few stats, short sentences, and/or three or so reference images.
•Paypal only. Full payment up front. Payments need to be in (thus securing your spot) by December 31st, 2011, to be qualify for the sale.

Got a few things going on these days…

Most consistently, I'm teaching a couple of college art classes each week. Two classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. It's nice, and it gets me thinking about some of the fundamentals that I tend to gloss over myself.

I'm also working on an ongoing webcomic called "Possessed," which you can check out HERE.
I've taken over as the regular artist, after the previous artist turned out a whopping 80+ strips. I'm hoping to be on this one for a while, as it's already a lot of fun and the author is a great guy to work with! Other than that, I'm just taking freelance commissions as they come! I'm pretty much always looking to schedule commissions down the road, be it within the next 24 hours or the next two weeks. So are you looking to have any artwork done? Read on!!

Well, it's pretty simple—I'm available for commissions right now! Trying out a new work schedule, and it looks like it'll allow me more time to work on smaller projects like personal commissions!

A few quick notes:
•By default, all commissions are digitally produced and digitally delivered (300dpi, TIFF/PNG). If you would like more tangible resources/final product, please be aware that additional fees will be incurred.
•Please provide links to clear, legible reference images and keep your descriptions concise. I start once you pay (partial or whole).
•Most character pinups I can finish in one sitting, so having everything I need to know up front is ideal for keeping me in the particular groove of the piece. If I have to go back and add something because you forgot to mention it before, you may be billed for edits; else I will simply deliver it as-is.
•PAYPAL only. On larger orders I will consider payments by check or money orders, but that's it.

I've put the Kingdom Hearts doujin into storage.

Honestly, it's looking pretty doubtful that I'll actually "finish" it.

And honestly, as I said before, it's likely a counterproductive thing to have in my "portfolio" if I'm serious about getting a job at Disney or Pixar.

I'm still not calling it quits. But with it being stored away, out of the gallery for now, I'm going to feel less tied (down) to it, so the possibilities of me finishing the last dozen or so pages will likely dwindle.


I know this is going to be a bummer to many of you, and I apologize for leaving you hanging, but it's really in my best interest that I not keep it around.
If I ever do get around to finishing it, it'll be all in one go, with no staggered updates, at which point I'll make it available as a downloadable archive for anyone that wants to keep it—because I will ultimately pull it offline for good after having the completed volume up for a few weeks.

It was only supposed to be a silly, little, 12-to-16-page satire of the Disney politics of the time anyway—that it went on for roughly three times that was pretty surprising to me!
