Pretty Soldiers Carry On

Description

So, this took about a year. I'll explain.

Long story short, my old (unpatched at the time) version of Manga Studio crashed as I was moving on to probably the final phase of composing the characters, losing me about an hour of unsaved progress, mostly consisting of minute details and precision touch-ups—things that would have been a pain in the butt to round back and immediately try to recreate. I was aggravated. So this got put on the back burner until this week. =D

Glad to have it done, though! Sailor Moon was the first anime I watched with the discerned knowledge that it was, in fact, a cartoon created and produced in Japan. It was intriguing because unlike most of the other animated series I was growing up with, there was a focus on character development and overarching plotlines. It could be silly, it could have action, but it could also be thematic and poignant too. Plus, the visual style and animation itself was new to me—instead of constantly trying to keep the on-screen activity busy with superfluous animation, there was just enough balance between style an substance to give both greater weight.

Not so sure how I'd view the show if I saw it now, but I'm quite keen on nostalgia, so spending time on a piece of fanart that harkens back to my early interests in "Japanimation" seemed only more fitting amidst the series' anniversary revival. (Though how does a "20th Anniversary" celebration span a couple of years or more? =D I'm a bit confused as to what is being considered the series' "official" date of origin, as this meta celebration seems to have been going on for a while.)

Anyway, enjoy!
And yes, I realize that the scene this is "from" actually has Usagi/Serena in her Moon Princess gown… Wasn't going for the narrative here and opted for consistency across composition. This was just intended to be bright, colorful homage. =)
(But for those inclined to relive the "fight" with Queen Beryl… www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8TWC2…

The Canadian dub with that awesome song worked better than the Japanese sequence, which just used the regular theme.
